INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION RESOURCES BECOMES SCHOOLFORGE MEMBER

THE INTERNET, December 29th, 2002 -- International Education Resources (IER), a sister project of General Education Online (GEO) dedicated to developing and maintaining a free online educational resources portal featuring original content, officially announced its membership in Schoolforge (http://www.schoolforge.net) today.

Schoolforge's mission is to unify independent organizations that advocate, use, and develop open resources for primary and secondary education. IER will benefit from membership in Schoolforge in several key areas:

additional development and content resources beyond those available from GEO alone;
the ability to reach a broader audience more quickly;
the ability to partner with additional organizations in a more timely manner through Schoolforge; and
a centralized place to post news and other organizational information.

"Joining Schoolforge was always a top priority for IER, primarily because Schoolforge represents a coordinated effort of over a hundred education-related organizations. IER represents a sister concept to GEO that will provide timely and helpful information to educators, students, and researchers," said Michael Viron, Project Manager and Primary Developer of GEO.

International Education Resources plans to:

provide access to both US and international websites related to education;
provide original content which will provide insights into the education process; and
provide a site that provides information that complements GEO's existing content, where possible.

The primary sponsors for IER include General Education Online (http://www.findaschool.org), Academic Web Information Repository (http://www.webspinners.org), and Simple End User Linux (http://www.seul.org)
